For the 19th year, the Rotary Club of Lakeway/Lake Travis will hold our Annual Mercedes Benz Car Giveaway in November.  This annual event has become a well-known tradition throughout the area and is supported by other Rotary clubs throughout Texas.  Raffle tickets are $100 and include over $200 of coupons to local restaurants and businesses.  The Grand Prize is your choice of a new 2020 Mercedes Benz CLA250 Coupe or GLA250 SUV!

The Rotary Club of Lakeway/Lake Travis has been an active community participant since 1992.  We are committed individually and corporately to giving back to the community for the many blessings we all enjoy in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.  Since the founding of our club, we have striven to exemplify the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" both by raising money for our charitable projects and by participating in hands-on service projects throughout the local area and Mexico.

The major portion of our fundraising proceeds goes toward scholarships for LTISD students pursuing college and vocational education beyond high school.  Some of our recent projects include:
  • Awarding more than $515,000 in college and vocational scholarships to Lake Travis students.
  • Donating $60,000 to Ladies of Charity - Lake Travis in 2018 for funding to help build their new Thrift Shop Building
  • Drilling a clean water well in Tanzania, enabling thousands of villages to have access, not only to clean water, but within a short walking distance, rather than 3-6 miles.
  • Developing the Rotary 3DLimb Project - working to make 3D printed limbs available to handicapped people in distressed areas of the world.
  • Financially supporting ShelterBox, the international Rotary club-level project of first-responders to natural disasters.  Since its inception in 2000, ShelterBox has responded to earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, tsunamis, hurricanes, landslides, typhoons and conflict, delivering emergency humanitarian aid to families in need on every continent.
  • Hosting an annual international training weekend for ShelterBox in May each year.
  • Donating $50,000 to the new Lake Travis Community Library.
  • Hosting Adoption Awareness picnics, in conjunction with Texas Child Protective Services, where pre-screened children to be adopted and prospective families can spend time together in a casual setting.
  • Honoring Lake Travis High School students by awarding Student of the Month certificates for outstanding character, leadership and community service.
  • Hosting the Special Olympics Awards Luncheon for the last seven years honoring each Special Olympics athlete with a medal and a certificate.
  • Sponsoring and advising the Lake Travis High School Interact Club, a Rotary community service club for high school students;
  • Supporting the Rotary International effort to eradicate polio in the world by hosting Purple Pinky days in local elementary schools to raise funds for this project.
  • Providing funds and participating in a hearing aid project in Matamoras, Mexico, which provided and fitted hearing aids at no charge to 450 people of all ages.
  • Providing a reburbished ambulance to a hospital in Matamoras, Mexico.
  • Sponsoring in-bound and out-bound High School Youth Exchange students with other countries.  Over the years, we have hosted 75 students from Zell Am See, Austria, Belgium and Japan for periods of a few weeks to a full school year, showing them Texas history, culture and hospitality; and we have sponsored a number of Texas students as exchange students to those same countries.
The car raffle drawing party (always a well-attended and fun event!) will be held in November.  We'd love to have you join us as a sponsor.  Contact Rotarian Jim Gentil at jim@jimgentil.com
